Digital Workflow
The term “digital workflow” is a fancy way of saying a “wizard”. If you’ve ever used a self-check-in kiosk at an airport for an airline flight, you are using a wizard. You insert your credit card in the slot, then follow the prompts on the screen until you are all checked in.
That is exactly the way FFLAssist’s “4473 Wizards” work, and which are the “sweet spots” of the entire application. There are four (4) wizards used to fully complete the 4473. The purpose of these wizards is to relieve you of the burden of manually reviewing each and every 4473…perfect for gun shows, and the cornerstone of complete ATF 4473 compliance.
- Section A – completed by the dealer to select the desired firearms.
- Section B – completed by the buyer to provide personal information and determine if the customer is a prohibited person.
- Section D – completed by the dealer to enter/verify the customer’s photo ID information, and the NICS/State background check results.
- Section B Correction – completed by the customer only if they answered one of the “yes/no” questions differently than what is expected. If you feel their rationale for the different answer is legit, you direct them to this “correction” wizard. By law, you, as the dealer, are not permitted to change the answers to a “yes/no” question. That must be done ONLY by the customer. On a paper copy, the customer simply changes their answer and initials their changed answer next to the correction. Not so with a digital 4473. Customers run this wizard and correct their answer themselves. This digitally “initials” the correction and places a comment in Box 32 on page 3 of the 4473.
Just because these wizards make verification less burdensome, you still need to do a full review. You can either manually eyeball the completed 4473 or you can run the FFLAssist’s “Mock ATF Audit,” which generates a list of every issue found with the 4473 in question, including whether or not associated documents are attached, such as the customer’s driver’s license.
